The elections for the post of President of India will be held on July 17 and the results will be declared on 20 July. The incumbent President Pranab Mukherjee‘s term ends on 24 July and the new President will immediately assume office.

After the Presidential Polls, the election for the post of Vice-President will also be held on August 5 and the results will be declared the same day. The present vice-president Hamid Ansari, who has held the post for two consecutive years will vacate the office on 10 August.

None of the parties has nominated any candidate till now for the polls. The election commission has issued the notification that the process of filing nominations for the vice-presidential elections have begun from Tuesday and the last day to file the nominations is July 18, all the nominations will be examined on 19 July and the last day to withdraw from the nomination is July 21.

If the parties fail to come up with a consensus candidate, the election will be held on 5 August and the counting will also be done on the same day.

In the vice presidential election, a candidate requires 20 proposers and 20 seconders who should be members of Parliament to win the polls. To avoid any corruption or allegations of corruption during the pools, the EC has decided to use the special ink for voting found in a different ink will be disqualified.
