Election Commission unlikely to stay release of PM Modi’s Biopic

After the two Indian Courts dismissed the plea to put a stay on the screening on the Narendra Modi’s biopic “PM Narendra Modi”, The Election Commission is either unlikely to defer the release of the film as demanded by the opposition alleging that the screening of the biopic will be a violation of the Model Code of Conduct.

The Election Commission will pass the buck to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

The film is slated to release this Friday, April 5.

Previously, Bombay high court dismissed a petition by activists demanding a stay on the release if the film alleging that the screening provided PM Modi with “unfair electoral mileage.”

The Delhi High Court ruled against the appeal alleging the release of the film as a political agenda to increase the votes by an influential personality.

The biopic shows the life of Narendra Modi as a common man and his journey to PM Modi. It includes the work done by him and his vulnerability during the time of Gujarat riots.

Vivek Oberoi portraying the titular role in the PM Narendra Mosi’d biopic defended the neutral stance of the film. In his comments to Asian News International (ANI), Vivek Oberoi mentioned “Why is the opposition afraid, What are they afraid of? I think they fear Chowkidaar ka Danda.”

Vivek Oberoi has campaigned for BJP in the Uttar Pradesh elections said that he doesn’t belong to any political party and the film is not propaganda as it is accused by the opposition.

Meanwhile, The Information and Broadcasting (I&B) ministry have sought time until April 5 to respond to the EC’s letter seeking comments on the complaints by the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) against the New channel NAMO TV, a channel dedicated to showing the rallies and speeches of PM Narendra Modi. The channel is also inclined to show the achievements of PM Modi.

The opposition alleged that the channel is the violation of Model Code of Conduct as BJP is using government platforms to promote and advertise their party and it works. These channels might act as an influence on the voters which is against the MCC.
