Filing a 5,160-page chargesheet in a special UAPA court against 10 people in the Elgar Parishad case, including 5 activists and 5 “underground CPI (Maoist) operatives, the Pune Police on Thursday claimed that some Maoist leaders were conspiring to assassinate PM Narendra Modi and to overthrow the constitutionally elected government by way of procuring weapons and ammunition.”

Of the 10 people, 5 activists; Sudhir Dhawale, Rona Wilson, Surendra Gadling, Shoma Sen and Mahesh Raut, were arrested on June 6 alleged for causing violence during Elgar Parishad. The other 5, Prashant Bose(Kishanda), Prakash (Naveen /Rituparna Goswami) and “Comrade M” (Deepak/Milind Teltumde), Deepu and Mangalu were arrested on August 28 for their alleged links with the banned CPI (Maoist).
Speaking about the chargesheet, ACP Shivaji Pawar said, “Our investigation has revealed that the Elgaar Parishad and previous campaigning for it, aggravated the violence at Koregaon Bhima. The Elgaar Parishad and the campaigns leading to it were inspired by, directed by and funded by the members of banned CPI Maoist organisation.”

He added, “Probe has revealed the role of some of them regarding procurement of arms and ammunition for terror acts, funding by the CPI Maoist and mobilisation for Elgaar Parishad. The absconding accused Milind Teltumbde has been coordinating the urban network of the CPI Maoist and has played a role in Dalit mobilisation.” He added, “We have included statements of around 80 witnesses and the chargesheet has 5160 pages. We have even taken the statement of recently surrendered Maoist leader Pahad Singh.”
