Amidst Maratha protests in the state, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has invited leaders of all the parties from both the Houses for a meeting in the Legislative Assembly on Saturday.

Maharashtra Revenu Minister Chandrakant Patil confirmed the news and told ANI, “Law and order in state due to Maratha quota stir should be discussed by all. So, CM Fadnavis has invited party leaders of both houses for a meeting in Vidhan Sabha on Saturday.” This was discussed at the party meeting headed by the Maharastra CM yesterday late at night.

Bharat Bhalke (Congress), Rahul Aher (BJP) and Dattatraya Bharne (NCP) resigned as legislators on Thursday, PTI quoted. There have been total five resignations over the Maratha reservation issue.

The other two ministers who resigned were Harshvardhan Jadhav (Shiv Sena) and Bhausaheb Patil Chikatgaonkar (NCP).

On Thursday, the Maratha protests turned violent while the Maratha organizations were observing a bandh in Mumbai and other areas. Their demand is to get reservations in jobs and education.

Fadnavis has assured that the state government is “serious” and “sincere” in this matter.

There has also been speculation of BJP trying to replace Fadnavis as the CM after Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut indicated towards it. Though BJP has refuted his claims and said there are no such talks going on inside the party.
