With a flood of celebrities in politics in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) fielding Sunny Deol from Gurdaspur, Great Khali campaigning for BJP candidate, another famous Indian footballer turned entrepreneur, Kalyan Chaubey is set to turn the balls in court of BJP and give a tough competition in the Krishnanagar Lok Sabha constituency in Kolkata, West Bengal.

The interesting contest between BJP and the two heavyweight rivals of Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Communist Party of India Marxist (CPIM) will have everyone’s eyes still at it. Trinamool Congress has fielded Mahua Moitra and CPM has fielded Professor Santanu Jha from the constituency.

Krishnanagar constituency will go to polls in the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha elections on April 29. The results will be announced on May 23.

Bharatiya Janata Party nominated Kalyan Choubey’s name along with the 182 other candidates after the party’s National Executive Body meeting in New Delhi. BJP with full confidence to get elected fielded the goalkeeper from Krishnanagar constituency.

Not an ordinary man, the former custodian of the Indian football team is all set to contest the elections against Trinamool Congress’ (TMC) Mahua Moitra in the Krishnanagar Parliamentary constituency. He represented the Indian football team from 1994 to 2006 at various levels including the senior level and as the goalkeeper.

The eminent footballer has also saved the bar posts for Mohun Bagan, East Bengal, for the five-time i-league champion Goa’s Salgaocar FC, Mahindra United, Mumbai FC, and JCT.

The footballer joined BJP in 2015 in the presence of finance minister and BJP senior leader Arun Jaitley. After his retirement, he started working for BJP and participating in its activities.

Kalyan Choubey is the first Bengali professional footballer to run his own entre[reneuship and his football academy is India’s largest football academy in terms of area and facilities. Known for his religious activities, he also authored an original novel in Bengali titled ‘Aporinato’ which was published by Deb Sahitya Kutir.
