Recently Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has been in the headlines for some or the other reasons. A few days back CPM had alleged that the national broadcast channel, Doordarshan did not air the Chieh Minister’s Independence Day speech on the grounds that it was against the patriotic feelings.

CPM leader Brinda Karat had alleged that the public broadcaster channel Doordarshan had recorded Tripura CM’s speech on 12 Aug which was to be broadcast on 15 Aug. But the CM received a mail from the Prasar Bharti on the eve of 14 Aug saying that Manik will have to make some changes in his speech. Manik Sarkar had refused to make any changes to the speech and called it as an undemocratic, autocratic and intolerant step taken by the channel asking him to make changes in his speech. Doordarshan had denied all the allegations saying that said that the local station of Agartala had given wide coverage to the speech of the CM and the development policies undertaken by the government for the state.

Another case has come to light where a girl named Ria Roy claiming herself as an activist of the World Anti-Communist Council, posted a statement on social media saying that a reward of Rs 5.5 lakh would be given to anyone who is able to chop off the head of the chief minister Manik Sarkar.

Tripura Police has initiated a probe to trace the person who issued the statement against CM Manik Sarkar on social media. In his statement to the ET, a senior police officer said that “A case has been registered in West Agartala police station. We have taken the case under relevant provisions of Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act. Assistance will be taken of cyber experts.”
