The first meeting of the new Council of Ministers will likely to take place on June 12 under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, sources familiar with the development claimed on Friday.

In the first meeting of a new council of ministers, it is expected that the Government will discuss its strategies and future course of action of the government. If sources to be believed, a strategy for the first parliament session is also expected to be discussed.

PM Modi is also expected to brief the ministers on the matter, sources added.

It should be noted that during his first tenure as Prime Minister, Narendra Modi used to brief the ministers about the Centre’s welfare schemes. Meetings of the council of ministers were regularly held in the previous Modi government.

Earlier the First Cabinet Meeting was held on May 31 and was chaired by PM Narendra Modi. The Union Cabinet in its first meet approved many other welfare schemes including the ₹3000 monthly pension to Small Traders and Businessmen. The Union Cabinet also approved the PM Kisan Scheme for all Farmers irrespective of the land they owned.

As per the pension scheme, all the small traders and a self-employed person with GST below 1.5 crores and age between 18 to 40 can apply for this scheme. They all will get Rs.3000 as pension when they attain an age of 60.

The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi hours after allocating portfolios to all inducted ministers on Friday.

PM Narendra Modi in his Cabinet 2.0 made crucial changes replacing Rajnath Singh with Amit Shah for Home Ministry while Nirmala Sitharaman who held Defence Portfolio in previous government has now been allocated Finance Ministry in absence of Arun Jaitley.

Rajnath Singh has been appointed as the next Defence Minister replacing Nirmala Sitharaman. S Jaishankar has been appointed as External Affairs Minister.

A total of 57 ministers along with PM Modi took oath at the ceremony held in the national capital on May 30. On all 24 Cabinet Ministers, 9 Ministers of State with Independent Charge and 24 Ministers of State took the oath on Thursday.
