Chandan Mitra, the editor of The Pioneer and Bharatiya Janata Party‘s two-time Rajya Sabha former member, is speculated to join Mamata Banerjee‘s Trinamool Congress.

Mitra quit BJP due to being neglected in the Modi-Shah rule. He submitted his resignation to the Party President, Amit Shah on Tuesday. According to ANI report, Mitra confirmed leaving BJP and said, “I have given my resignation. But I have not decided whom I will join, or when. I am not going to disclose that.” There is no official confirmation from BJP on the issue.

The rumours of Mitra joining TMC have been rising since his meeting with Mamata Banerjee, though he denied having talks about joining TMC.

It is being deduced that Mitra will be joining the Party President, Banerjee on July 21 when TMC will commemorate the martyrs. Every year on July 21, Martyrs’ day is celebrated and a mega rally is organised. In 1993, thirteen Youth Congress workers were killed in Kolkata by the police officers.

Though Mitra has not commented on the matter confirming his presence, a senior TMC MP spilled the beans, he stated, “He is joining TMC and hopefully July 21 is the most convenient day to answer BJP in its own style.”

Mitra always has had cordial relations with Banerjee. He also publically criticized BJP while he was in the party.
