Former Punjab Home Secretary SS Channy on Thursday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in New Delhi ahead of national polls. SS Channy joined the saffron party in the presence of BJP Senior Leader and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.
Sarwan Singh Channy, the 1982-batch Punjab cadre Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, had in 2014 was given an additional charge of principal secretary (home affairs and justice) in Punjab.

Earlier on April 30, Former Haryana Chief Secretary SC Chaudhary started his second innings by entering politics amidst the ongoing national elections 2019. Chaudhary, 1977 Batch IAS Officer joined Indian National Congress in presence of former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Punjab has forged an alliance with Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). BJP-SAD combine is taking on Congress, AAP and Punjab Democratic Alliance of 8 parties.
In 2014 General Elections, BJP-SAD combine won 6 Lok Sabha Seats with BJP emerged victorious on 2 seats while SAD on 4. Congress who suffered major setback across the nation managed to win 3 Lok Sabha Seats in Punjab while debutant Aam Aadmi Party bagged 4 Lok Sabha Seats.
General Elections 2019 is being held across seven phases starting April 11 to May 19. Phase-V is slated for May 6. Punjab for its 13 Parliamentary seats and Chandigarh’s lone seat will poll in a single phase on May 19 four days ahead of counting.
