In a video tweet message, he mentioned more about his announcement. Raghubar Das tweeted “Our government will provide the second refill for gas cylinders free of cost under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. This will be started on the occasion of Janmashtami this year,”. The move by Jharkhand government will ensure that 99 percent of the PMUY beneficiaries in the state will get the benefit.
Currently, the scheme has surpassed 7 crore connections since its launch. Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana is the scheme launched by Modi government on May 1, 2016 to safeguard the health of women & children by providing them with an option of clean cooking fuel – LPG so that they don’t have to compromise with their health because of smoke emitted from firewood. The government initially targeted to cover 5 crore poor households by March 2019 but later revised it to cover 8 crore households.
Lauding the brilliance of success, Even WHO (World Health Organisation) has termed Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana scheme as a decisive measure to curb indoor health pollution harming the women’s health in the country.
In the scheme, the government gives state-owned fuel retailers a subsidy of Rs. 1600 for every LPG gas connections provided to poor households. This subsidy tends to compensate the security fee for a cylinder and its fitting.
