While addressing a conference of the DGPs/IGPs of Northeast in Guwahati on Friday, Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit said that, they need to focus on security situation in the region. He said that the illegal migration of people from across the border in the name of saviour of the ethnic group are encouraging the militant activities in the area. He also added that the since the region is suffering from connectivity issues and underdeveloped region the militants are taking advantage of this and this has also fueled the smuggling of arms and criminal activities.

Purohit said that such conferences should be organised frequently so that they could keep a regular check on the security situation of the region. He pointed out to the fact that the 5484 kms long border shared with Myanmar, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and China was mostly isolated giving all the easier ways for the militants to cross borders and smuggle illegally in the region.

He urged the police force to be aware of the situations arising in the society and train their force to face any types of challenges. He further added that India is rapidly moving towards being a developed nation and all the concerned sectors are working as per the duties assigned to them to ensure the process of development continues, keeping in mind to maintain the peace and security. He also said that the government is working in a way that the phase of development could be enjoyed even in the remotest corner of North Eastern regions of India.
