Fresh violence broke in Darjeeling marking it as the 25th day of unrest in the hills. On Sunday, the protesters set a police camp on fire, injuring 4 police personnel and attacking a BDO office at Pokribong.

The hills of West Bengal have been witnessing unrest and violence for almost a month now. The GJM leading the protest are demanding for a separate Gorkhland. Mamata Banerjee government tried to stop the violence by taking police actions, which instead resulted in making the protestors more agitated. The other parties also in an attempt to restore peace in the region have asked the Centre and the Governor of West Bengal to intervene and win the confidence of the people.

On Sunday, GJM members alleged that two of their members were killed in a police firing. GJM activists also took out a rally at Chowkbazar with the bodies of Suraj Sundas and Sameer Subba, the two members killed. GNLF also accused the police of killing one of its party member Tashi, and also took out a procession at Sonada with his body.

The agitated protesters set the police station at Pokribong on fire, attacked the office of BDO and also several police personals were also beaten.

GJM has accused that 4 party members were killed in police firing, while the police denying it said that the police did not even fire a single shot.

All the parties were scheduled to meet on July 18 to reach to consensus solution to the prevailing problem of demand for Gorkhland. Looking at the current situations the meeting is pre-ponded and now will be held on July 11.

GJM has rejected any offer of holding talks with the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
