Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Astana, to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), where India and Pakistan were announced as the new members of the organisation today.

At the meet, while addressing all the leaders of all member countries, Modi urged everyone to come together and fight as one against terrorism. He said that coordinated efforts among the members of SCO to defeat terrorism and enhance the connectivity without impinging on sovereignty and territorial integrity.

This remark of the PM was likely diverted towards China, as the reason India gave for not attending the One Belt, One Road (OBOR) summit in Beijing, was the economic relations between China and Pakistan violates India’s sovereignty.

Modi said that, India had full faith that SCO would give new push to fight terrorism. While emphasising that connectivity with SCO countries is India’s top priority, Modi also spoke about India’s commitment to trade in various sectors including energy, education, security, minerals, development partnership, investment etc.

Concluding, Modi thanked SCO for including India as its member and also called for efforts by the SCO to tackle climate change.

After Modi Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also congratulated India on joining SCO and said that the organisation gives a shared platform to fight terrorism.
