Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, an accused in the Malegaon blast case, the candidate from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh for the Lok Sabha elections, explained why she joined politics as she filed here election papers in Bhopal on Tuesday. She addressed a rally on Tuesday in Madhya Pradesh’s capital Bhopal along with Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Confessing the atrocities committed on her for being a woman, Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur explained the reason behind her joining the political party. According to the news agency ANI, Pragya Singh Thakur was recorded saying “Women are being tortured and numerous atrocities are committed on them. Women are being exploited and raped by men.” In other words, she said, “I have gone through that pain.”

In a bid to gain the vote bank, she addressed the women in her speech saying that with her arrival in politics in the state, she will ensure that no women should be tortured by these criminals.

Pragya Singh Thakur recently ripened up controversies after her remarks on the late ATS chief Hemant Karkare who died in the 26/11 attack. She alleged him of committing atrocities on her and said that his death was a curse as a result of the torture he inflicted upon her. Later she sought an apology saying that her emotions made her sill such words and it was her personal agitation against Hemant Karkare.

In her remarks against the Babri Masjid, she said that she was involved in the Demolition of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya. Pragya Singh Thakur also claimed that she will ensure that the Ram Mandir is built.

Pragya Singh Thakur will be contesting against Digvijay Singh in Bhopal parliamentary constituency in Madhya Pradesh.

The 29 Lok Sabha constituencies in Madhya Pradesh will go to polls in four phases of the Lok Sabha elections. The state will go to polls on April 29, May 6, May 12., May 19. The results will be announced on May 23.
