Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, in an address to the students of Gautam Buddha University (GBU) in Greater Noida, said that the government of UP is working hard to create job opportunities for the youth in the state. He said this after noting that a lot of youth from the state are migrating to other states in search of employment opportunities.

Speaking at the commencement of the academic session of 2018-19, the chief minister also said that over 2.5 lakh jobs had been created for youth last year alone, and the government is aiming to do the same in the coming year.

Reasoning the launch of the ‘One District, One Product’ scheme, Adityanath stated that the state of UP has been very fortunate in that every region and every district has a product that is traditional in its expertise.

He asked why youth were willing to travel out of UP to places like Surat, Ludhiana or Mumbai to find work, and why couldn’t they manage to get work within the state, say in Gautam Buddha Nagar or Ghaziabad, Meerut, Muradabad, Aligarh, Khurja or Kannauj.

He assured that the ‘One district, One Product’ scheme would enable the youth to find work near their homes, and was designed to bring about the desired changes in their lives. The scheme will enable the government to provide work for over 2 lakh youth locally, in the next one year.

Every village in the state has at least one person who is traditionally skilled but there is need to ensure the progress of these people and to stop their exploitation, the Chief Minister said.

“If you go to any village, you will find a traditional barber, an ironsmith, a tailor, a carpenter, etc. There should be work to provide them with better opportunities for their skills. Their skills have not been provided with a platform and remain unacknowledged.”, he said.

The MSMEs are tasked with identifying such people, providing them with the necessary training along with work kits, and finally, a certificate from the government. Once these certificates are put up at their shops, no ‘strongman’ nor anti-social elements can dare get work done without paying these people their dues.

The Chief Minister stated that there are huge possibilities for improvements in the state and exhorted the youth to use their energies to explore these opportunities. He also stated that his government is working to encourage more startups, and had made provisions for them in the state budget.

He stated that in the last one year, about 4.5 lakh youth enrolled for the government’s skill training program and over 2.5 lakh youth have gotten good job placements after completion of the training.

The Chief Minister attended the ceremony in a helicopter and inaugurated a rooftop solar power plant, a three-acre garden and a Hexi-bicycle scheme; all part of the green initiative of GBU’s varsity.

Union Ministers Mahesh Sharma and Satya Pal Singh, along with GBU Vice Chancellor Prabhat Kumar were present at the event.
