While addressing the rally in Telangana, Congress Vice-President, Rahul Gandhi said that the government was trying to hide behind the disguise of other issues, trying to deflect the country’s attention from the issue of decline in GDP growth.

He tagged a news report that said the country had lost its tag of being the fastest growing economy in the world after the fourth quarter GDP growth declined to 6.1 per cent.

He also quoted former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who had criticised demonetisation, saying that it was a “legalised plunder and a monumental failure” and predicted a 2 per cent fall in GDP.

During the rally he also mentioned former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, who had also criticised the note ban and said it would lead to a fall in GDP growth.

By opposing the decisions of the government and alleging that government was deliberately raising other issues to divert the peoples mind from the issue of decline in GDP growth, Congress is trying to pave its path for the assembly elections due in 2018.
