Yogi Adityanath led government is suffering a lot of reprimand after the recent tragedy at the Gorakhpur hospital in Uttar Pradesh. Opposition parties criticised the UP government calling it careless and irresponsible. Some of them even asked for the resignation of UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and UP Health Minister Siddarth Nath Singh on the basis of ethic.

The incident took place last week when around more than 63 children died in BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur due to oxygen deficiency. It is said that oxygen supplier INOX, dealer Pushpa Sales owed Rs 69 lakh to the hospital and hence had supplied the oxygen supply which led to the tragic incident. However, the hospital administration and Siddarth said that oxygen deficiency was not the reason for the deaths.

During a press conference on held on Monday, the Health Minister denied the allegations saying that the children did not die due to oxygen deficiency.

Reacting to the statements given by the Health Minister, Prabhu Narayan, RSS Prant Sanghchalak of Awadh in a facebook post mentioned that state government cannot escape moral responsibility for the tragedy. He wrote “Whoever may be the culprit in the legal proceedings in this matter, the state government cannot escape moral responsibility. For this, all ministers in the state government and members of UP BJP organisation should do prayaschit (repentance).” Also in his statement to ET over a telephonic conversation, he said that Ministers of the state should visit the families of the deceased and offer sympathy and condolences. He further added that all the ministers should keep a fast for a day to repent and advised that they should learn how to be sensitive and handle critical situations, from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Narayan also commented on the statements of Siddarth saying that he was deeply saddened by the remarks made by the Health Minister. He should not have cited statistics of previous deaths in the press conference. He said that though the intentions of the CM were good but there was only statistics given and no sensitivity could be seen. He also advised that the UP government should hold a ‘Repentance Day’.

Regarding the cataclysmic incident of the deaths in Gorakhpur hospital, the UP government may lodge a FIR against Rajiv Mishra, the former principal of BRD College, Dr. Satish Kumar who is head of the hospital’s anesthesia department and the dealer of oxygen supply Pushpa Sales.
