The newly-elected Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) in its first meeting on Monday adopted a resolution, requesting Rahul Gandhi to take over as the Congress party President.

It has been quite some time that the Congress has been saying that Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi will be soon taking over as the President of the party, replacing his mother and the incumbent party President, Sonia Gandhi. Tere were also news a few days back that Rahul may be selected as the new president by Diwali. Even a senior Congress leader Sachin Pilot had recently in his statement had said that Rahul may assume office as the Party President shortly after Diwali.

The GPCC, which met for the first time after the recent elections for various posts under it, during the meeting also took the resolution empowering party president Sonia Gandhi to decide new state party unit chief as well as AICC members from Goa.

In his statement to the reporters, the Congress Pradesh Returning Officer R Dhruvanarayan said, “The newly-elected PCC has resolved to request Rahul Gandhi to take over as the party president.” He also said that during the meeting no names were discussed for the state unit president as for now. He further added that Sonia Gandhi will be soon nominating the names for the post of the GPCC chief. Shantaram Naik is the incumbent president of the Goa Congress.
