Gujarat Congress chief Whip Aswin Kotwal and another legislator of Congress Baldevji Thakore met the secretary of the state of Gujarat and submitted the Congress party’s address to the Speaker, Rajendra Trivedi to disqualify rebel legislator Alpesh Thakore.

The Gujarat Congress leaders on Thursday made a representation to the State Assembly to disqualify the MLA Alpesh Thakore who had recently resigned from all the post of the party. In his statement, Ashwin Kotwal said that “Alpesh Thakore has resigned from the party and with due reference to the rules, he ceases to be the Congress legislator in the assembly.”

Alpesh Thakur, the OBC leader and the convenor of the Gujarat Kshatriya-Thakore Sena, joined the Congress in 2017 in the assembly elections in the presence of the Congress president Rahul Gandhi.

Ashwin Kotwal said that Alpesh Thakore has contested the state assembly elections on Congress ticket in the year 2017 from Radhanur Constituency in North Gujarat Banaskantha district and won from the seat. However, now he has resigned from the party and cannot continue to be an MLA.

Alpesh Thakore resigned from the Congress party earlier this month claiming that the state leaders of the party had sidelined him and he felt humiliated.

The party leaders alleged that Alpesh Thakore was indulged in anti-party activities during the elections. He was allegedly campaigning for the independent candidates from his Thakore Sena during the Lok Sabha elections. He was also supporting the candidates against the party.

Lok Sabha elections in Gujarat were held in the third phase of the elections on April 23. The results of the 17th Lok Sabha will be announced on May 23.
