A day after Rahul Gandhi officially step down from the party top post, All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary, Harish Rawat on Thursday has tendered his resignation from his post. Rawat stepped down from the post taking the responsibility of the party’s defeat in 2019 elections.
In the national polls in Uttarakhand, the party lost all 5 parliamentary seats with Rawat himself lost the polls from Nainital-Udhamsingh Nagar Lok Sabha Seat.

Earlier on Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi officially resigned from the party Top Post saying as president of the Congress party he is responsible for the loss of the 2019 elections. He added that accountability is critical for the future growth of our party. It is for this reason that I have resigned as Congress president.
‘It is an honor for me to serve the Congress Party, whose values and ideals have served as the lifeblood of our beautiful nation. I owe the country and my organization a debt of tremendous gratitude and love. Jai Hind’, said Rahul Gandhi in a tweet while attaching a four-page letter.

There was wild speculation of Motilal Vora being appointed as the Interim Party President – as claimed Wikipedia. However, the former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh said that he has no information about this.
Background
In the National polls that concluded on May 23, the Congress put a flop show and won 52 seats, which is only 8 more than it got in 2014 national polls. It has also lost some of its strongholds across the country including Rahul Gandhi’s Amethi in Uttar Pradesh and Jyotiraditya Scindia‘s Guna in Madhya Pradesh.
Rahul Gandhi, soon after the poll outcome, had on May 25 offered to step down from his post at the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting.
