Preparations for the upcoming Haryana elections have started in a full swing. The authorities have begun the exercise of taking the stock of the situation of polling stations.

In one such exercise conducted jointly by the police administration and civilian administration, 83 polling stations in 60 locations were identified as ‘critical’ while 2,923 polling stations in 1,419 locations have been identified as ‘vulnerable’. Haryana state has a total of about 19,500 polling stations in 10,309 locations.

Speaking on the matter, Additional Director General of Police, Law, and Order, Navdeep Singh Virk, as quoted by ANI, said: “The proper security arrangements for peaceful and incident-free polling are being made, including the identification of critical and vulnerable polling stations across the state, which is a very important exercise in this regard.

He further added, “All such polling stations would be covered by either deployment of Central Paramilitary Forces, micro observers, webcasting, etc. or a combination of these.

Critical polling stations-

ECI categorizes a booth as a critical polling station when it has witnessed 90 percent of voting and more than 75 percent of polling recorded in favor of a single candidate.

As per the exercise conducted, 14 critical polling stations have been identified in Kurukshetra district, while 10 each in Hisar and Palwal. 7 such stations exist each in Mewat, Hansi, Sirsa, and Panipat while 5 are each in Jind and Bhiwani. 3 critical stations are each in Yamunanagar and Dadri, two in Mahendergarh and one each in Gurugram and Kaithal.

Vulnerable polling stations-

According to the ECI notification, these are those polling booths where voters can either be intimidated or influenced to vote using unlawful means. Mewat has the maximum number of vulnerable polling stations which stands at the figure of 342.

Navdeep Singh Virk also stated that the district authorities will take the required actions to ensure the smooth conduct of elections in the state.
