The Bharatiya Janata Party made a clean sweep in the Haryana Municipal Elections.

The elections were held on Sunday. The voter turnout of over 69 percent was observed. The polls were held for the posts of Mayor and Ward Councillors in five towns — Rohtak, Karnal, Hisar, Panipat, and Yamunanagar. And for Ward Councillor of two Municipal Committees — Jakhal Mandi in Fatehabad and Pundri in Kaithal district.

Karnal and Rohtak are the hometowns of CM Manohar Lal Khattar and Former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda respectively.

The Mayors of the 5 Municipal Corporations will be directly elected for the first time, unlike before when the councilors used to elect the Mayor.

Also, the Election Commission of Haryana has ruled out that for any candidate to win, he has to make sure that he secures more votes than NOTA(None of the above). This time  NOTA is treated as a “fictional candidate”.

The counting in five Municipal Corporations and two Municipal Committees in Haryana began on Wednesday morning.

In the polls, while, Congress backed the Independent candidates, BJP is fighting on its own.
