Finance minister Arun Jaitley budget for 2018 must had brought some smile to the faces of our country’s VVIPs i.e,Prez Ramnath kovind,Vice Prez Venkaiah Naidu and Governors of the states.

Hike Income Of Delegates:

At present, the President gets Rs 1.50 lakh per month, the Vice President Rs 1.25 lakh and a governor of a state Rs 1.10 lakh.

The government has proposed to revise the emoluments of President to Rs 5 lakh per month, Rs 4 lakh for Vice-President and Rs 3.5 lakh for Governor.

Apart from this, Jaitley also proposed an inflation-linked revision of salary of Members of Parliament (MPs).

Jaitley also said the emoluments to the Members of Parliament will be automatically revised every five years indexed to inflation, so that MPs themselves should not fix their own salaries.

Recently, Bharatiya Janata Party MP Varun Gandhi had suggested that rich parliamentarians should forgo their salaries for the remaining term of the current Lok Sabha.

Gandhi had written a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan urging her to initiate a movement to encourage economically advantaged Lok Sabha members to forego their remunerations for the remaining term of the Lower House.

Implementation after 7th Pay Commission:

After the implementation of the 7th Pay Commissions recommendations on January 1, 2016, the Cabinet Secretary, who is the top-most bureaucrat in the country, gets Rs 2.5 lakh per month and a Secretary in the Union government draws Rs 2.25 lakh per month.

The scale of increase in the salary of the President is by a whopping 200 per cent.

The announcement was welcomed by the Members of Parliament (MPs).

Jaitley also proposed a change in the procedures of revision of Member of Parliament’s salaries. He said the salaries to the MPs will be automatically revised every five years indexed to inflation, so that they themselves should not fix their own salaries.

“Law also provides for an automatic revision of emoluments with respect to inflation. Now salary will be inflation-based and will not be fixed by MPs,” Jaitley said.
