The spokesperson also told that apart from exisiting foreign tribunals, 200 additional tribunals will be set up to hear the pleas of people.
Previously, on 31 August, NRC list was published on the orders of Supreme Court. The list excluded over 19 lakh people. NRC State Coordinator Prateek Hajela informed that a total of3,11,21,004 persons are included in the final NRC list.
Publication of the list has created a situation of confusion in the state, as the citizenship status of almost 19 lakh people is hanging in danger. Though the officials have directed that excluded people will not be automatically considered as ‘foreigners’. Foreign Tribunals established under Foreigners Act 1946 and Foreigners (Tribunals) Order 1964.
The list was made available both in offline and online mode. Now all those excluded can appeal before the foreign tribunal. For this, Ministry of Home Affairs has also amended Citizenship (Registration of Citizens and Issue of National Identity Cards) Rules, 2003 to increase the time limit of filing appeals from 60 days to 120 days in Foreign Tribunals.
