Union Home Ministry meeting on Jammu and Kashmir situation concluded in the national capital just now. The high-powered meeting was chaired by newly-appointed Home Ministry Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla.

The agenda of the meeting was to discuss the issues regarding the implementation of Jammu and Kashmir reorganization act. In the meeting, it was also decided that 85 Central government benefit transfer schemes will be extended for execution in the former state. Meeting also saw the participation of secretaries from various ministries such as Finance, Urban Development, Law and others.

The meeting comes at an important juncture when earlier this month, Union had abrogated Article 370 and divided Jammu and Kashmir state into 2 Union territories. Following which, it imposed heavy restrictions in the state to prevent political mishappenings.

The Union government is trying its best to return normalcy in the erstwhile state. The Centre’s decision to bifurcate the region into 2 Union territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has left the political atmosphere in the valley charge to high notes. Past few days saw heavy restrictions on the movement of people in the valley. There are many political leaders who have also been put under house arrest.
