Former Hamirpur District Magistrate B Chandrakala on Thursday gave a miss to the Enforcement Directorate(ED), who had sent summons to appear before the agency over the alleged mining scam during the previous Samajwadi party regime in the State.

Instead, B Chandrakal, who is on study leave, sent her lawyer to appear before the investigating agency. “We have submitted the documents that ED had asked for and my client will be appearing in due course of time,” the lawyer said. Sources claimed that Lawyer who appeared before the investigation authority submitted the papers related to assets of the former District Magistrate of Hamirpur, B Chandrakala.

Now, It is expected that the Enforcement Directorate will issue a fresh summon to the IAS officer for appearing before them.

Enforcement Directorate had lodged a case against 11 people including the IAS officer and a Samajwadi Party MLC in connection with the alleged illegal mining scam. The probe agency had also issued summons to all the accused to appear before them for interrogation.

Earlier in January, CBI, which was probing the illegal mining scam on the direction of
the Allahabad High Court had conducted raids in more than dozen places in residences and other places of 11 accused including the IAS officer and the MLC. The agency had been probing into the case of illegal mining in the state since 2015 on the directives of Allahabad High Court. There was a ban in Mining in the state for a limited period of time, however, as per allegations, the government officials allowed mining even during the ban period.

The total 11 accused in the case includes – Adil Khan, B.Chandrakal, then mining officer Moinuddin, Samajwadi Party MLC Ramesh Mishra and his brother, mining clerk Ram Ashray Prajapati, Ambika Tiwari (Hamirpur), mining clerk Ram Avatar Singh & his relative and Sanjay Dikshit.

B Chandrakala is accused of flouting the rules and granting licenses for sand mining during her tenure as district magistrate of Hamirpur in 2012.
