The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has called a meeting of its Jharkhand leaders to discuss the report about the rift within the state leaders and displeasure of some leaders over the decision by party president Ajoy Kumar, to back Hemant Soren as the Chief Ministerial candidate for Jharkhand State Polls.

The meeting has been called by the party at the national headquarters and is slated to be held on Saturday. Apart from Jharkhand State leaders, Party’s general Secretary KC Venugopal and Party State In-Charge RPN Singh will also be present in the meeting.

State leaders are expected to discuss the poll strategy in the high-level meeting in New Delhi. Apart from this, Sources claimed that there is a view in the party for not announcing the Chief Ministerial Candidate before the Polls, which are due for November-December, this year.

Hemant Soren is the acting President of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). Congress had in national polls stitched an alliance with Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Babulal Marandi’s Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). It is expected that all the four parties, despite facing a setback, will contest the State Polls together.

If a report published in ANI to be believed, Hemant Soren wants to be the Chief Ministerial candidate for the alliance. However, Jharkhand Vikas Morcha Chief Babulal Marandi and Congress leader Subodh Kant Sahay have opposed the idea of projecting Soren as the Chief Ministerial nominee.

The party with the meeting will also try to resolve all the indifferences in the state unit. Reportedly, two factions of the party were involved in a fight outside the party-state office. Later, police have to intervene to separate the two groups.

Reportedly, post-poll outcome, there is a rift within the state unit – with one faction belonging to Former Minister and Senior leader Subodh Kant Sahay while other belongs to Party State Chief Ajoy Kumar.

It should be noted that Congress along with JMM had begun talks for alliance in February, ahead of the national polls. It was decided at that time the Congress will lead the alliance in national elections while JMM will get a chance to lead in the Assembly polls.

In the national polls, Congress contested maximum seats in the alliance and nominated its candidates on 7 Lok Sabha seats while the remaining seats were shared by other poll partners – JMM, JVM and RJD.
