The Congress Core Group meeting, slated for Tuesday, is likely to discuss some important issues for including the poll preparednesses for 2019 Lok Sabha polls. Sources claimed that party will also analyze the situation arising out of the SP-BSP alliance in Uttar Pradesh that sends 80 parliamentarians to the Lok Sabha. Sources further revealed that the meeting is scheduled to be held at the official residence of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

Sources said that issues related to a possible alliance, poll strategy, and organizational structure will come up for discussion during the meeting. “The discussion will also take place on how to strengthen the party at the booth level, galvanizing the party cadres for the Lok Sabha polls, strategy for retaining the edge in the states where the party has just registered a resounding victory.

However, the core group will mostly discuss the difficult situation that the BSP-SP alliance have created for the party in Uttar Pradesh. BSP-SP on Saturday announced its alliance without Congress in Uttar Pradesh leaving two seats — Amethi and Raebareli – for a decade old party.

Congress Core group consist of Party President Rahul Gandhi, Uttar Pradesh In-charge Ghulam Nabi Azad, Former Defence Minister AK Antony, Senior Congress Leader Ahmed Patel, General Secretary KC Venugopal, former Union Minister Jairam Ramesh,

Earlier on Sunday, A day after BSPSP turned a blind eye towards Congress in Uttar Pradesh, the grand old party on Sunday announced that it will contest all 80 seats of Uttar Pradesh on its own in the upcoming Lok Sabha 2019 Polls.

Speaking to the Press, Senior Congress Leader and Uttar Pradesh In-charge Ghulam Nabi Azad on Sunday said, “The Congress will contest on all the 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, and defeat the BJP.”

Azad further added the party is ready to take all secular forces of the state into its fold.

“We wanted that Congress should have been a part of the grand alliance (against the BJP) in UP. But, if someone does not want to walk along, then nothing could be done.” Ghulam Nabi Azad said on the question of being left out by Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party.
