The Indian National Congress is likely to announce the name of its new Delhi State Chief by January 10, a senior party leader told Media on Monday. The search for Delhi Congress chief began after Ajay Maken resigned from the post on January 4, citing health reasons.

However, there were reports about him having a difference of opinion with the Central Leadership over the issue of alliance with the Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party.

“Party president Rahul Gandhi will take two more days (Jan 10) to finalize the name of the new Delhi Congress president. The new president’s name will most likely be announced by January 10. Names of all senior leaders, including Sheila Dikshit, are under consideration,” AICC in charge of Delhi Congress PC Chacko told reporters on the sidelines of an event on Monday.

Earlier during an Interview, Former CM and Staunch Leader Sheila Dixit said she is ready to take the responsibility as the party Chief in the national capital. the former Delhi CM said that if the high command of the party asks her to lead the Congress party at the capital, then she will not shy away from taking the responsibility.

In response to Arvind Kejriwal’s latest remark about warning people not to vote Congress as it would lead to split in AAP vote share, PC Chacko said, Voting for the AAP will ensure the victory of the BJP. This is because the Congress is in direct contest with the saffron party across the country in the Lok Sabha elections, not the AAP.”

Responding to the question of having an alliance with AAP, he said local Congress leaders and workers believe that the party should not ally with the AAP in the national capital and should fight the poll independently.

The Congress has formed a committee under the chairmanship of AK Antony that will decide about tie-ups with parties for Lok Sabha polls across the country, Chacko said.

However, There is a buzz that with the resignation of Ajay Maken from the President of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) and HS Phoolka from AAP, the way to cement the alliance is cleared. HS Phoolka, after leaving AAP, asserts to reconstruct 2011 Anna Movement

On Jan 2, AAP Leader Gopal Rai while addressing a presser said that his party is ready to enter into an alliance in a bid to defeat the ruling BJP.

The national executive of AAP that met on December 29 has decided to contest all the seats in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Goa, and Chandigarh, totaling 33, in the Lok Sabha elections 2019.
