In a big to Indian National Congress, Maharashtra Congress leader Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil on Tuesday resigned as MLA from Maharashtra Assembly. He submitted his resignation to Speaker of the Vidhan Sabha. If Speculations to be believed at least 10 Lawmakers from Congress may follow his path.

Sources further claimed that all those MLAs along with Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil may join Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

This is seen as a big blow for the Congress party who is making efforts to revive itself in the state where assembly polls are slated for November-December, later this year.

Speaking to media after stepping down as Lawmaker, Patil said, ‘I didn’t even campaign for the party during Lok Sabha elections. I don’t doubt High Command, they had given me an opportunity by making me the Leader of Opposition. I tried to do good work but the situation made me resign’.

Earlier, Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil resigned as CLP leader and Leader of Opposition from the Assembly last month amidst the national polls 2019.

He has sent his resignation letter to Congress President Rahul Gandhi last month after his son has joined Bharatiya Janata Party seeking ticket from Ahmednagar Parliamentary Seat.

Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi on April 26 accepted his resignation letter.

Sujay Vikhe Patil, his son, was denied ticket to contest from Ahmednagar Parliamentary Seats by NCP who had forged an alliance in the state with Indian National Congress. Later, he joined Bharatiya Janata Party and won the seat in recently held national polls.

Congress MLA Jaykumar Gore on Friday met State Water Resource Minister Girish Mahajan in Mumbai. The meet came on the backdrop that Gore is likely to change side and may join BJP.

Congress in the state is making efforts to revive itself after facing a humiliating defeat in the recently held national polls. In the state that sends 48 MPs to the Lok Sabha Polls, NCP-Congress could only bag 5 Lok Sabha Seats with NCP winning 4 seats while one seat won by the Indian National Congress.

Shiv Sena-BJP combine swept the state in the national polls bagging 41 seats out the 48 seats. Bharatiya Janata Party won 23 seats out of 25 contested while its partner Shiv Sena registered a victory on 18 out of 23 contested.
