In what can be seen as a jolt to a grand old party, its Rajya Sabha Sanjay Singh on Tuesday resigned from the primary membership of the party and from the parliament. Singh announced that he will join the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday, tomorrow.

Speaking to media, Singh slammed the grand old party over leadership crisis. Singh said that party is still living in future and there is crisis not in terms of just leadership but also in terms of communication. ‘There is a complete lack of communication within the party’, he said at his residence in the national capital with his wife Ameeta by his side.

Singh praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi by saying that he is leading the nation with ‘Sabka Sath and Sabka Vikas’.

He added that in his view, any political party lacking conversation, dialogues and leadership can do anything for the country. ‘I have decided to quit the Congress and also from the Upper House of the parliament’.

He also submitted his resignation to Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu, which was accepted by him. Sanjay Singh contested the national polls 2019 from Sultanpur Lok Sabha Seat in Uttar Pradesh against former Union Minister Maneka Gandhi. Singh could only secure 41,000 votes and ended up at third on the tally.

Apart from him, his wife Ameeta also announced to resign from the party. She had represented Amethi Assembly seat twice in Uttar Pradesh Assembly. ‘I have also resigned from the Congress’, Ameeta told media.

It should be noted that post-poll verdict, many Rajya Sabha MPs – 4 from Chandrababu Naidu‘s Telugu Desam Party (TDP), one from Samajwadi Party have joined the ruling BJP in the Upper House of the Parliament.
