Mamata Banerjee‘s Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Indian National Congress issued a three-line whip to all its Rajya Sabha MPs on Tuesday directing them to present in the House. The grand old party issued a whip only for Tuesday while Trinamool Congress has directed its MPs to remain present in the House for next two days.
In the meantime, BJP has issued a three-line whip to all its Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs directing them to remain present in the house for a discussion and support the bills in the upper House.
The Union Government will move the Triple Talaq Bill in the Upper House of the parliament today. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi speaking to media said that Government will move the Triple Talaq Bill in Rajya Sabha.
As quoted by ANI, Union Minister said, ‘Triple Talaq bill will be tabled in Rajya Sabha at 12 pm today. We have 11 bills pending to be passed today. So far, 15 bills have been passed in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. 6 bills have been passed only in Lok Sabha and 4 bills only in Rajya Sabha’.

Earlier on July 25, The lower house of the Parliament, Lok Sabha, passed the bill to ban triple talaq, with the Union government pressing the need for the bill as hundreds of cases of instant divorce have come to the fore despite Supreme Court declaring it ‘illegal’.
The new Bill will deem the practice ‘illegal’, with the husband supposedly facing a prison sentence of three years. The BJP led government had many amendments to the original Bill after it faced a lot of criticism from opposition parties. It should be noted that the earlier bill doesn’t have the provision of Bail.
