Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Spain from Germany on Tuesday. This is his second stop on the six-day, four-nation tour of Europe that will also take him to Russia and France.

Addressing the media at La Moncloa, the official residence of the Spanish Prime Minister, Modi said India was in favour taking its relations with Spain “even more productive” and India is committed to take relations with Spain to a new level. Modi also bought up the gravest issue of terrorism that the humanity is facing today. Speaking about the issue he underlined the need for boosting bilateral cooperation in fighting terrorism that has affected both the countries.

In response to this his counterpart Mariano Rajoy said that, bilateral ties would deepen following Modi’s visit to Spain.

After his meeting with Rajoy, Modi will meet Spanish King Felipe VI. following to which he will also hold a round-table interaction with a group of Spanish CEOs who are keen to invest and expand their presence in India. There are around 200 Spanish companies operating in India.

This is the first time any Indian Prime Minister has visited Spain in past 30 years. Rajiv Gandhi was the last to pay a trip in 1988.
