In the latest episode of ‘Jab We Met,’ India Today’s Rahul Kanwal speaks to the former JNU president Kanhaiya Kumar on his life and his candidature in the upcoming assembly elections.

Former JNU president and CPI candidate of Begusarai, Kanhaiya Kumar, talks of how he was born and brought up in this district of Bihar and then shifted to Delhi when he got admitted in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). The people of Begusarai support Kanhaiya Kumar on contesting from the Begusarai district.

“Bihar ke yuaon ko lagta ki hai is’se (unse) wo mil sakte hain,” says Kanhaiya talking about how much of a native he is to Bihar whereas the Bharatiya Janata Party is thought of as an outsider.

He is also seen singing the anthem of ‘Azaadi’. He had received his PhD in February this year.

Kanhaiya Kumar talks of himself as the voice of resistance in the nation. He mentions how he had organised crowd funding for his election campaign.

The CPI candidate in Begusarai, Kanhaiya Kumar, is now contesting against BJP union minister Giriraj Singh and RJD’s Tanveer Hassan. A police case was registered against him for allegedly chanting anti-national slogan’s on the premises of the Jawaharlal Nehru University and he had denied the allegations.

Earlier the Delhi court had asked for more time to prosecute the JNU students including Kanhaiya Kumar, allegedly involved in the 2016 sedition case.
