Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting US later this month, on June 25. During the meeting Modi and US President Donald Trump will be discussing about different issues regarding terrorism, Expanding the defence partnership with a focus on DIIT and economic architecture for Asia-Pacific region.

The details of the agenda of the meeting are still not known. India is hoping to emerge as a leader in the Asia and Indo-Pacific region as US maintains its dominant position in the region.

Joint Strategic Vision for the Asia-Pacific and Indian Ocean of Indo-US from 2015 will be further carried forward. When then US President visited Delhi on the occasion of the Republic Day in 2015, the Joint Vision was unveiled. It said that India and US will promote accelerated infrastructure connectivity and economic development in a manner that links South, Southeast and Central Asia, including by enhancing energy transmission and encouraging free trade and greater people-to-people linkages, to support regional economic integration.

Bipul Chatterjee, Executive Director of Cuts International suggested that, looking upon the decision of India and Japan to put in place an economic and connectivity corridor from Asia to Africa  and the Indo-Japan initiative on Asia-Africa Growth Corridor launched last month, India should emerge to play a pivotal role in driving prosperity and security in the Asia-Pacific region.
