Former Union Minister P Chidambaram was arrested by CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) from his residence on Wednesday evening. Congress party cried a foul play in his arrest.

Earlier CBI had put up a 2-hour notice outside Chidambram’s residence but when they reached the location, Chidambaram was found nowhere. But on Wednesday evening, He was seen at Congress Headquarters. On being asked about his disappearance, he replied that he was preparing his legal defense case. Congress MPs and senior lawyers like Abhishek Singhvi and Kapil Sibal were also seen accompanying the minister.

After visiting Congress Headquarter, Chidambaram went to his residence, from where he was arrested around 9.45 pm. The day ended on a high political note with the senior leader’s arrest. Earlier on Tuesday, Delhi High court had rejected the anticipatory bail pleas of Chidambaram in INX Media corruption case. Justice Sunil Gaur heard the case and dismissed both the petitions (in CBI and ED case).

On Wednesday, P Chidambaram had also filed a Special Leave Petition in Supreme Court seeking the relief against the Delhi High Court order. But, the court refused to grant him any relief. Delhi High court observed that the leader was a ‘prima facie’ accused in the alleged INX media scam.

Enforcement Directorate has summoned former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram in relation to alleged INX Media case. On the issued orders, Congress party furiously attacked the Modi government for seeking revenge against its leaders. But speaking for the ruling party, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju absolutely denied the meddling of Bhartiya Janta Party in the alleged matter. He told media that the investigative agencies have prepared the charge sheet and arrest warrant on conclusive grounds.

Salman Khurshid, a lawyer by profession said that the authorities should have waited till Supreme Court’s decisions. The leader may be presented in the court today.

INX MEDIA CASE:
