While hearing the case against former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram, a special court in Delhi extended the judicial custody of the Congress leader upto October 3. The orders in the INX Media case came today, increasing the trouble for the Congress leader.

Solicitor General of India, Tushar Mehta, appearing for the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) sought an extension of judicial remand of the leader. He said that the situation has been same since the day one. To this, Kapil Sibal, appearing for Chidambaram, had objected. However, special judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar took the final decision and went ahead with extending the judicial custody.

The Judge has also allowed for the medical examination of the former Union Finance Minister since Kapil Sibal mentioned that his client, P Chidamabaram is suffering from various diseases like coronary artery disease, hypertension, and impaired glycemia. The leader is also said to have reported a weight-loss during his custody.

Previously, Delhi high court judge Justice Suresh Kumar Kait directed the CBI officials to file a status report in the INX Media case within seven days. P Chidambaram’s plea in the case is pending in Delhi high court which will be taken up on 23 September.

P Chidambaram was arrested on August 21 by the investigative agencies on his alleged involvement to the INX media case. Therefore, he was sent to the custody on August 22 in the case.

On Wednesday, Delhi High Court had also transferred the 2G case from the court of special judge OP Saini to the court of special judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar.
