Probing the charges of tax evasion, Income-tax department on Wednesday raided the addresses of 4 top bureaucrats in Uttar Pradesh. Two of the bureaucrats under I-T radar are IAS officers who have held important positions in previous as well as present governments.
According to an I-T official directly aware of the developments, the searches have been conducted at over 15 premises related to the officials. The raids have been conducted in Lucknow, Greater Noida, Noida, Meerut, Baghpat, Mainpuri and Delhi. The searches have been going on since early morning.
The officers who have been targeted include Hriday Shankar Tiwari (IAS Officer and Director, Health), VK Sharma (IAS Officer & Additional CEO, Greater Noida Authority), Mamta Sharma (Wife of VK Sharma & Regional Transport Officer) and SK Singh (Special Secratary, Prisons).
According to I-T department, these officials were under the radar for tax evasion since a bit of time and only after having conclusive evidences against them, the step was taken. I-T department had carried out one such raid last month as well.
