Janta Dal (U) to contest election in upcoming assembly polls in Mizoram

The Janata Dal (United) of Bihar has decided to contest polls for the first time in the upcoming Mizoram Assembly election which is due later this year.

Party general secretary and spokesperson, K.C Tyagi has released a press statement from Delhi which said that a delegation of JD(U) led by him will be visiting Aizawl in the coming days.

The statement said, “Janata Dal always stood for the rights of the Mizo people and their miseries,” striking the connection with the Mizo people, adding that the party would fight the coming assembly polls to be held this year.

The party has decided to contest election to the 40-member constituent assembly. Mr.Tyagi talking to PTI said that decision regarding number of seats the party would contest in the state and whether they will go alone or form an alliance will be decided later.

The JD(U), under the leadership of Nitish Kumar, is committed to ensuring socio-economic development for all, it said, adding that the party would also ensure that the ‘Act East Policy’ is revamped and accelerated to benefit the Mizo people in particular and northeastern region in general.

The current Congress government in Mizoram is facing anti-incumbency, the statement said.

Earlier this year, in Nagaland assembly poll, JD(U) had contested on 13 seats, out of which it managed to win one seat.
