In a major organizational change in the party, HD Deve Gowda‘s Janata Dal (Secular) on Thursday picked new State Chief, Working President and the Head of the Youth Wing. The Karnataka ruling party appointed HK Kumaraswamy as its new State President while for Karnataka.

While Madhu Bangarappa has been appointed as the working President of the party.

The post of Karnataka State President fell vacant after H Vishwanath had on June 4 stepped down from his post taking moral responsibility of the party’s poor show.

Adagur H. Vishwanath, currently an MLA in Karnataka Assembly and a former MP, talking to media said that he takes the moral responsibility for the party’s poor show in Karnataka. JD(S) Karnataka Vishwanath was reportedly upset with the party for not being taken into the confidence on key issues.

Talking to reporters, HD Deve Gowda said, ‘We have decided to go with one working President and Madhu Bangarappa will be working President of the party’. He added that the former Karnataka State Chief H Vishwanath has resigned taking responsibility for my defeat from Tumkur. ‘I have appointed five-time MLA HK Kumaraswamy as the new State Chief.

The party has also appointed Nikhil Kumaraswamy, son of Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy and grandson of HD Deve Gowda, as the Chief of party’s youth wing.

Nikhil Kumaraswamy’s name was finalized in a meeting of the party state committee that was attended by party’s top leaders including HD Deve Gowda, Basavaraj Horatti and others.

Reacting on being appointed as the Head of party’s Youth Wing, Nikhil Kumaraswamy said, ‘Last week I said questions might arise that your family dynasty continues, but this came as a shock for me. I was really surprised when HD Deve Gowda Ji took this call. I am looking forward to work for the party’.

Nikhil Kumaraswamy lost the national polls from party’s stronghold Mandya Lok Sabha Seat. He was defeated by Independent Candidate Sumalatha Ambareesh who was backed by the Saffron party.

JD-S and Congress contested the national polls together in an alliance. However, the alliance faced a crushing defeat with Bharatiya Janata Party bagging 25 Lok Sabha Seats out of the total 28 Seats. While JD(S)-Congress Coalition which is in power in the state managed to won one seat each.
