Former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) Supremo HD Deve Gowda on Saturday reiterated his support to Congress in the ongoing national elections which will conclude on May 19, Sunday. Speaking to media, Deve Gowda said, ‘We are with Congress, I don’t want to speak anything more. On 23rd results will come, a clear picture will be known to the entire country & what further development takes place’.

Both Congress and Deve Gowda’s JD(S) is a part of a coalition government in the state and contested Lok Sabha polls together on all 28 seats of the state. Earlier, Deve Gowda has backed Congress President Rahul Gandhi for the prime ministerial candidate.

Both, JD(S) and Congress have forged an alliance in the state with 21:7 seats sharing formula in Karnataka. Congress after Karnataka State Polls last year has extended Support to JD(S) and Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy with an aim to keep BJP out of the power. However, in the last few months before the national polls, many attempts were made to topple the Coalition Government.

Election Commission had on March 10 declared schedule for General Elections 2019. General Elections is being across Seven Phases starting from April 11 to May 19. Counting of Votes and Results for the mega Battle of ballots will be announced on May 23 four days after the 7th phase of voting. The last phase of polls is slated for May 19 where 59 Lok Sabha Seats will seal the fate of political parties.

Karnataka’s 28 Lok Sabha seats voted in two phases on April 18 and April 23.

In 2014 General Elections, BJP banking on the ‘Modi Wave’ bagged 17 seats while Congress had won 9 seats. JD(S) who has contested 25 Lok Sabha seats in 2014 General Elections won only two seats.
