04:05 PM: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief Chandrababu Naidu on Monday extended Union Government’s decision to scrap Article 370.

In a tweet, Chandrababu Naidu, in a tweet said, ‘Telugu Desam Party supports the Union Govt as it seeks to repeal Article 370. I pray for the peace and prosperity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).


02:50 PM: The Delhi ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday extended the support to Centre over the decision to scrap the Article 370. Taking to Twitter, Delhi Chief Minister said, ‘We support the govt on its decisions on J & K. We hope this will bring peace and development in the state’.

02:35 PM: Former Union Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday congratulated PM Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for scrapping the Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir saying ‘a historical wrong has been undone today’.

In a series of tweets, Arun Jaitley said, ‘The government’s decision in relation to Article 370 is a monumental decision towards National integration’. He added that ‘The decision of the government will help the people of J&K the Most. More investment, more industry, more private educational institutions, more jobs and more revenue’.

‘A historical wrong has been undone today. Article 35A came through the back door without following the procedure under Article 368 of the Constitution of India. It had to go’, he said in a series of tweets complimenting PM Modi and Shah.

 

01:50 PM: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Sharad Pawar on Monday slammed Bharatiya Janata Party-led Union Government for not taking stakeholders into Confidence before the move on Scrapping the Article 370.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Pawar said, ‘I think Govt of India should have taken them (leaders of the valley) into confidence which unfortunately the govt didn’t do. And then they should have taken the decision (to revoke 370)’.


01:40 PM: Former Union Minister and Stalwart Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushma Swaraj on Monday welcomed the Centre’s move to scrap article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.

Taking to Twitter said, ‘A bold and historic decision. We salute our Great India – one India.’

01:25 PM: MDMK MP Vaiko opposed the move saying, ‘I am opposing this Bill (Article 370). This is a day of shame, shame, shame…this is the murder of democracy’.


01:05 PM: Indian Army and Indian Air Force have been put on high alert, following revoking of Article 370 and other decisions announced by Government of India.


12:54 PM: Former Chief Minister and National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah on Monday issued a statement on scrapping of Article 370 and other decisions announced by Government of India (GOI) today.

‘Government of India (GOI)’s unilateral and shocking decisions today are a total betrayal of the trust that the people of Jammu & Kashmir had reposed in India when the State acceded to it in 1947. The decisions will have far-reaching and dangerous consequences’, Abdullah said in a tweet.


12:48 PM: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) backed the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Union Government over Article 370. Speaking in the House, BJD MP, Prasanna Acharya in Rajya Sabha said, ‘In a real sense today, Jammu & Kashmir has become a part of India. My party supports this resolution. We are a regional party but for us the nation is first’.

12:30 PM: Janata Dal (United), BJP’s Bihar, ally on Monday said that party will oppose the bill moved in Rajya Sabha. Speaking to news agency ANI, party Spokesperson KC Tyagi said, ‘Our chief Nitish Kumar is carrying forward the tradition of JP Narayan, Ram Manohar Lohia & George Fernandes. So our party is not supporting the Bill moved in the Rajya Sabha today. We have different thinking. We want that Article 370 should not be revoked’.


12:25 PM: Amit Shah in the Upper House of the Parliament, ‘This is not the first time, Congress in 1952 and 1962 amended article 370 through a similar process. So instead of protesting please let me speak and have a discussion, all your doubts and misunderstandings will be cleared, I am ready to answer all your questions’.


12:10 PM: Bahujan Samaj Party extends Support Government. Speaking in the House, Satish Chandra Mishra, BSP MP, in Rajya Sabha: Our party gives complete support. We want that the Bill be passed. Our party is not expressing any opposition to Article 370 Bill & the other Bill.

11:50 AM: Jammu and Kashmir to be a union territory with legislature and Ladakh to be union territory without a legislature, announces Home Minister Amit Shah in the Upper House.


In the backdrop of the heavily tensed political situation, Home minister Amit Shah, speaking in the Rajya Sabha, announced that his government will revoke Article 370, an article that gives special status to the Valley.

The Bharatiya Janata Party-led government is keen on pushing their stand to dilute the article which gives special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier on Sunday, Three top leaders of Jammu and Kashmir – Mehbooba Mufti, Omar Abdullah, and Sajad Lone have been put under house arrest restricting their movement.

Amid the very fragile situation, security state in the Jammu-Kashmir region has fallen down in threat as government halted the Amarnath yatra and deployed additional troops on the valley.

The decision to revoke the special status of Jammu was taken in a Cabinet committee on security meeting which took place today in the early morning.

Home Minister also introduced the bill to extend 10% EWS (Economically weaker sections) quota to Jammu state. The Parliament is in an uproar on the introduced bills.

The government has replaced the 1954 presidential order with the newly published Presidential order, 2019. 1954 order was called on to inculcate 35A under Article 370. Article 35A lets Jammu Kashmir define its residents and make special provisions for them.
