Justice Arjan Kumar Sikri bids adieu to the Supreme Court of India on his last day in office on Wednesday. Justice Sikri thanked all the members of the Bar and left the court for the last time as a judge.

Justice AK Sikri, during his tenure as the Judge of the Supreme Court of India looked into many crucial cases, including the latest matter of tussle between Delhi Government and LG.

Justice AK Sikri was also a part of the Select Committee to decide the case of CBI Director Alok Kumar Verma.

Previously, Justice AK Sikri was nominated as the Executive Chairman of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) by the President, Ram Nath Kovind.

Also, in a matter relating to the constitutional validity of “Aadhar” , Justice AK Sikri asked the Centre to introduce strong data protection law as soon as possible. He also said “It is better to be unique than to be best”

Justice Sikri’s career began in the year 1977 when he was enrolled as an advocate. He was appointed as a judge of the Delhi High Court on July 7, 1999. Later, he became the Acting Chief Justice of the High Court on October 10, 2011.

He was elevated as the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on September 23, 2012. That was before serving his tenure in the Supreme Court.

CJI Ranjan Gogoi said the conduct and sensitivity demonstrated by Justice Sikri as a judge will continue to inspire the young.

Attorney General KK Venugopal, described Justice Sikri as “Bhishma Pitamaha” of legal profession.
