K Chandrasekhar Rao, Chief Minister of Telangana and Popularly known as KCR, has been elected as the president of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS). The development took place at TRS’s plenary meeting held in Hyderabad today.

Nayini Narasimha Reddy, Electoral returning officer of TRS announced the move to elect KCR for the eighth time in a row, before the plenary started earlier today.

Speaking to media after the meeting, Nayini Narsimha Reddy, Senior Party leader and home minister in state government of Telangana said that the election has taken place with complete transparency and in a democratic way. On 14th April, the party had started the nomination process which went on till 18th. Out of the total nominations received, there were 12 which proposed KCR’s name. The same was raised for discussion in today’s meeting and everyone unanimously supported KCR’s name for the party president.

KCR has been holding the post of party president since 2001, the year in which party came into existence to fight for the separate statehood of Telangana. After Telangana became a separate state, TRS won the assembly elections to form the first government and KCR became the first chief minister.
