The Election Commission on Sunday allotted ‘Battery Torch’ symbol to Kamal Hasaan‘s Political Party Makkal Needhi Melisma (MNM) for General Elections 2019 for which dates have been announced by the poll body recently.

Party Chief Haasan took to Twitter to a made announcement for his followers and supporters. While asserting that they will be a torchbearer for Tamil Nadu in the upcoming Polls, Actor-turned-politician on twitter said ‘MNM thanks the Election commission for granting us the “Battery Torch” symbol for the forthcoming elections. So appropriate. @maiamofficial will endeavour to be the “Torch-Bearer” for a new era in TN (Tamil Nadu) and Indian politics.

The Poll Body has allotted common symbols for 39 newly registered political parties across the country. MNM gets a torch battery as a common symbol.

Kamal Haasan who has floated in his own political outfit Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) on February last year in Tamil Nadu, has recently launched its party in Puducherry in January early this year. Kamal Haasan has also announced that his party Makkal Needhi Maiam (MKM) will contest Lok Sabha on 40 seats – Tamil Nadu has 39 seats in Lok Sabha while Puducherry has a single parliamentary seat. In December last year, Kamal Haasan had announced that his party would contest the upcoming Lok Sabha Polls 2019.

While the two most powerful parties in the state – AIADMK and DMK had already entered into a poll pact with BJP and Congress respectively. The AIADMK led alliance have – AIADMK, BJP, PMK, KMDK, Puthiya Neethi Katchi and NR Congress.

While DMK apart from Congress has finalized terms with 6 parties. DMK will lead a Mega Opposition coalition in the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry comprising – Congress, CPI(M)CPI, MDMK, VCK, IUML, KMDK and IJK.

His longtime Movie Colleague Rajnikanth had recently opted out of Lok Sabha Polls and by-elections of 21 seats of Tamil Nadu to focus on 2021 Tamil Nadu State Polls.

General Elections are slated for April-May this year that would spread on Seven Phases starting from April 11 to May 19. Election Commission had on Sunday declared schedule for General Elections 2019. Results for the crucial Lok Sabha Polls will be announced on May 23 four days after the 7th phase of voting.
