Tamil actor turned politician Kamal Hassan ignited speculations about his political future ahead of his party’s scheduled launch by meeting cine superstar Rajninkanth and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief M. Karunanidhi and his son Stalin yesterday.

Hassan had said he will be meeting people who he likes for the purpose of “picking ideologies from everyone” before he takes his political plunge officially by launching his party and its symbol on February 21.

The actor’s meeting with Rajinikath had raised rumours of possible alliances between the two Tamil superstars. This is because Rajini himself had revealed to his supporters a few weeks ago that he too would be entering politics for the sake of people of Tamil Nadu.

These speculations of a grand cine alliance were ruled out, however, by Hassan right after his meeting with Rajini. He said that this was just a “courtesy call” and that he would be meeting several people throughout his state tour to formulate his own party’s ideology.

Hassan later on went to meet former chief minister Karunanidhi and DMK’s working president M.K Stalin at their residence for the same purpose. Stalin revealed to reporters that DMK is soon going to convene an all-party meet to discuss the Supreme Court’s recent Cauvery river verdict, and he also extended an invite to Kamal Hassan, who readily agreed to attend it.

According to Hassan’s team, he is going to launch his party on Wednesday this week and then begin his tour of Tamil Nadu after visiting former President APJ Abdul Kalam’s residence that day. He will then go on to meet other politicians and address public rallies in several cities.
