A day after Exit Polls predicted clear majority to BJP-Led NDA, the saffron party in Madhya Pradesh claimed the state ruling Congress is in minority. In a letter to the state governor Aanandiben Patel, Bharatiya Janata Party claimed that Kamal Nath-led Government in the state is in minority and requested a session of the state assembly.

Madhya Pradesh Leader of Opposition and BJP leader Gopal Bhargava speaking to news agency ANI confirmed the development. ‘It will fall on its own (MP Government), I don’t believe in horse-trading but I feel its time has come and it will have to go soon’, Bhargava said.

He added, ‘We are sending a letter to the Governor requesting an assembly session as there are a lot of issues’.

Congress had in December last year came to power after 15 years. In state polls that held in December last year, Congress fell short of a majority by 2 seats. Congress ended up with 114 seats in 230 assembly seat state. However, with the support of the BSP and Samajwadi Party, it is currently in power.

Bhartiya Janta Party won 109 seats while BSP, Samajwadi Party, and Independent won 2, 1 and 4 seats.

The development comes a day after almost all exit polls on Sunday predicted Prime Minister Narendra Modi to return in power.

Most of the exit polls predicted a clear Majority to Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) with above 300 seats.

Polls predicted party’s landslide victory in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand among others. Exit Polls also predicted BJP outrightly sweeping Madhya Pradesh in the national elections.

Earlier in a run-up to the national polls, Political tension heated up in the state after BSP Candidate from Guna Lokendra Singh Rajput quit BSP to join Congress. It irked the BSP Supremo Mayawati who threatened to reconsider her support to the Kamal Nath government in the state.
