The newly elected Kamal Nath led Madhya Pradesh government on Saturday said that it is going to create an Adhyatmik Vibhag (spiritual department) by merging several existing departments, a promise that the party has made by in recently concluded state polls.

The Indian National Congress had promised to form such a department before the last month’s Assembly elections. The ‘Anand Vibhag’ (Department of Happiness) set up by the previous chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, a first in the country, would be incorporated into the new proposed department.

The proposed Adhyatmik Vibhag (Spiritual Department) going to be formed by merging Dharmik Nyas Evam Dharmasv Department (Religious Trust and Endowment Department), Anand Vibhag (Happiness Department) in addition to the Directorate of Religious Trust and Endowment, Madhya Pradesh Teerth Evam Mela Pradhikaran and Rajya Anand Sansthan,” said Indian National Congress MP Unit on Twitter.

The Religious Trust and Endowments and Happiness Department will be merged in the new department. Directorate of Religious Trusts and Endowments, Pilgrimage and Fair Authority, Directorate of Mukhya Mantri Teerth-Darshan Yojana and Rajya Anand Sansthan working till now will also be included in the new department.

The Congress in the recently held polls adopted an alleged ‘soft Hindutva’ to woo Hindu voters, an allegation made by BJP. The Party in its manifesto had also promised to promote Sanskrit, develop a “Ram path”, the route which as per the mythology Lord Ram had taken during his exile; and set up cow shelters.

Earlier in a move that sparked controversy, The newly formed Kamal Nath led Congress Government reportedly is planning to scrap pension scheme for Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) detainees arrested during the Emergency between 1975 and 1977.
