Kanhaiya Kumar, former JNU student union president, is finally set to contribute his part in the Indian politics. He is set to contest the elections from Begusarai, Bihar.

“Kanhaiya will contest parliamentary elections from Begusarai irrespective of the grand alliance seat-sharing formula. The alliance must take its final call over seat-sharing within a week,” said CPI state secretary Satya Narayan Singh.

Kanhaiya has begun holding political rallies.

The RJD-led grand alliance in Bihar is yet to take final call on seat-sharing formula for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls but one of its allies CPI had already fielded Kanhaiya Kumar from Begusarai.

Satya Narayan Singh added, “Our party has been a natural ally of ‘mahagathbandhan’ (Congress and RJD) since 1990 and would continue our alliance with the secular, democratic and left-minded parties to defeat BJP. We would strive hard to unite like-minded parties to keep the communal forces at bay.”

On seats the party wants to contest, Singh said: “We have already decided in the state executive meet to contest six LS seats — Begusarai, Madhubani, Banka, Motihari, Khagaria and Gaya. These are CPI’s traditional seats and we have a strong vote base there. It is incumbent upon grand alliance leaders to take the final call and discuss the issue as soon as possible.”
