Karnataka Congress Legislature Party (KPCL) that met on Wednesday passed a resolution requesting Rahul Gandhi not to step down from party’s top post. Karnataka Congress Chief Dinesh Gundu Rao briefing the media after the meeting backed Rahul Gandhi. Rao said, ‘We all believe that Rahul Gandhi is the only person who can lead the party in the crucial hours’.

He added that we have passed a resolution in the meeting urging Rahul Gandhi not to step down from party’s national president Post.

Congress workers in Karnataka earlier in the day demonstrated outside party office urging Rahul Gandhi to continue as Congress President.

While Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee in Wednesday also passed a similar resolution and requested Gandhi to continue to lead party.

In another development, DPCC Chief Sheila Dixit along with State Party Workers held demonstration outside Gandhi’s Residence in the national capital. He later met Rahul Gandhi and requested same. Speaking to media after meeting Gandhi, Dixit said, ‘I have given him the message that he should not resign. We want him to continue on his post, otherwise it will cause us pain. We have conveyed that to him.’

Gandhi had offered to step down from his post at the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting held on Saturday. Reportedly despite the CWC rejected his resignation, now an MP from Wayanad Rahul Gandhi is said to be unfazed.

Many Senior Leaders have tried to convince him and requested him not to tender resignation. Leaders believed that the party cannot afford to have a new leader at the core at this time to build party organizationally.

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot and Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot on Tuesday met Congress President Rahul Gandhi in his residence in the national capital.

The Congress had on Saturday held its Working Committee meeting to discuss the reasons responsible for its poor performance in the recently held national polls 2019. Rahul Gandhi taking moral responsibility of defeat had on Saturday offered his resignation and asked party leaders to get a new name for party president post.

The Congress faced a crushing defeat in national polls and won 52 seats, which is only 8 more than it got in 2014 national polls. It has also lost some of its strongholds across the country including Rahul Gandhi’s Amethi in Uttar Pradesh and Jyotiraditya Scindia‘s Guna in Madhya Pradesh.
